ACCOUNTANT, LEVEL 1
The New York City Employees Retirement System is seeking a candidate to work in the Pension Payroll unit within the Retirement & Pension Benefits division. This selected candidate will be responsible for checking calculations performed for beneficiary and pensioner benefits. Within the unit, the candidate will support the unit as a Checker with responsibilities in processing requests, and applying adjustments to pensioners accounts based on QUADROs, Income Executions and Tax Levys. Key Responsibilities - Checking calculations performed for beneficiary and pensioner benefits- Collaborating with internal staff and business units- Preparing ad-hoc client letters- Supporting document retention efforts- Use of Salesforce for case management purposes- Preparing various spreadsheets for use in determining eligibility requirements, and/or beneficiary entitlements- Completing outgoing client letters and electronic communications- Satisfying client inquiries escalated from NYCERS Customer Service division- Candidates should be adept at satisfying daily assigned Checker case reviews, fulfill high-priority escalations submitted electronically, and maintains assigned case queue at the discretion of the unit supervisor
Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or 2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
